Video Marketing: Why You Should Go For Videos

Did you know that almost 5 billion videos are consumed on Youtube every single day?

According to We Are Social & Hootsuite’s data report, as of January 2020, Youtube is Malaysia’s top social media network with 93% of the country’s population using it on a daily basis!

The question is, how do you – as a business leverage on this media to promote your brand?

Every brand has a story to tell

You probably already spent a large amount of time to develop your business and marketing plan before starting your business.

You’ve got the Why behind your business.

But How will you tell your story?

Our suggestion is that you tell it through videos!

Why videos?

James Ritchie wrote in his article that an average consumer watches 206 videos a month!

According to Retail Dive, 72% of consumers prefer video to text marketing.

Videos are seen as more “convenient and effective” in delivering brand messages compared to lines after lines of text.

Regardless of the industry you are in, if you are running a business in the year 2020, you probably already have or are thinking about creating video content to increase the reach and engagement of your brand.

Here are some main reasons why videos are better than text or images:

1. Videos engage viewers

Think about the number of times you watched a video and felt a deep emotional connection with it. The emotional connection that you had with that particular video made you share it on your social media timeline, or to your friends.

Scientifically, our brains are also wired to process visuals better than text. That is why videos are more efficient when it comes to telling a story. Our eyes process more information in a shorter time when we are engaged with a video.

A picture paints a thousand words but a video paints roughly 1.8 million words

Nike is infamously known as one of the brands that creates compelling video advertisements with the theme of inspiration. This latest video was released not too long after the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and has gained over 58 million views ever since.

2. Video grabs people’s attention

There is a reason why we tend to stop scrolling when we stumble upon an interesting video which autoplays as we are scrolling down the timeline. That’s because psychologically, our eyes are attracted to movements.

Biteable conducted a simple and fun experiment to prove that videos are more efficient than images. With the same budget, the video version of the same ad got more clicks, more reach and better ROI.

Always go for videos when you are creating ads on social media!

When it comes to creating attention-grabbing videos, the trick is to have an interesting-looking video thumbnail so that people would click on it. Another best practice is to hook your audience within the first 15 seconds of your video.

This is a stellar example by IKEA which grab viewers’ attention by proposing the recipe for delicious kitchens!

3. Videos improve brand recall

Have you ever wondered how you manage to remember a specific video advertisement that you watched when you were a kid?

That’s because, according to data, our mind is able to retain 95% of message within a video!

This helps tremendously when you are a business trying to reach out to new customers who have yet to hear about your brand.

Here’s an example of a creatively clever video done by Intel in 2011 to perfectly illustrate their brand message. Trust us, you’ll want to watch it more than once!

4. Videos help improve buying intent

One of the best ways to seal the deal for your business is to have an impactful video which ties up all your unique selling propositions while targeting the customers’ pain points.

There are many ways that video can help to improve buying intent, which we will discover in the next part when we talk about the trends in Video Marketing.
